The Greenhead / Horse  Fly: The salt marsh Greenhead Fly a member of the Horsefly family is an abundant and bothersome summertime pest. These Bitting Flies specifically  the    females bite during daylight, and because they occur in large numbers, have a long flight range, and attack persistently, they interfere with the enjoyment of our outdoor summertime activities. The Greenhead Flies come from our coastal marshes. Adult females move from the marsh to nearby wooded and open areas in search of a blood meal, then they attack wildlife, livestock, your pets and of course you. The blood serves as a rich protein source necessary for egg development. Although there is no evidence to prove that the Green Head Fly caries any diseases, it could be possible. After all who heard of Lyme Disease or West Nile 20-30 years ago.

The Greenhead / Horse Fly Solution:    For years Rutgers University has directed research toward the control of the salt marsh Greenhead Fly. From this research they have developed a proven trap that in their tests has collected over 1000 greenhead flies per hour with no detrimental side effects to our environment, no bait and no chemicals. The female fly has the potential to lay thousands of eggs during its lifetime . So by trapping these pests you have the potential to significantly reduce their population and thus decrease the Greenhead Fly problem locally.

The Greenhead / Horse Fly Trap:  Based on Rutgers Research this trap is a square box painted black attached to four legs. The top has a fiberglass screen with a plastic collector attached. The flies are attracted to the dark color fly up inside, migrate into the collector then eventually perish.
